Shed Pads, Slabs & Pads

Shed pads, smoker pads, spa pads and general slabs, prepped and poured properly.

Not every concrete job is a driveway. A lot of what we pour is smaller, functional slabs, shed pads, smoker pads, spa pads and general-purpose pads that need to be level, correctly sized and ready for whatever gets installed on top. It’s less visible than a driveway, but it needs the same attention to prep and reinforcement, if anything, a shed or spa sitting on a pad that moves or cracks is a bigger problem than a cracked path.

Who it suits

Anyone installing a shed, workshop, garage or outbuilding and needing a proper base poured first. Also suits anyone adding a spa and needing a level, structurally sound pad underneath it, or putting in an outdoor smoker, pizza oven or similar fixed feature that needs solid ground to sit on.

What CJH actually does

We start with a free measure and quote, checking the footprint and any manufacturer specs for what’s going on top of the slab. Then:

  • Site prep. Clearing and excavating to the right depth, base compacted so the pad doesn’t settle unevenly once loaded.
  • Formwork. Boxed to the exact dimensions needed, sheds and spas usually have tight tolerances on pad size.
  • Reinforcement. Mesh or reo laid through the slab, sized to the load it needs to carry.
  • The pour. Poured and screeded level, this matters more on pads than almost anywhere else since sheds and spas need a true, flat surface to sit on.
  • The finish. Broom or steel-trowelled finish depending on what’s going over the top.

Where we’ve poured pads

We poured a shed pad and a separate smoker pad in Padbury, and a spa pad finished in exposed aggregate in Kinross. Different briefs, same approach: get the size and level right first, because that’s what everything else sits on.

What drives the price

As a Perth market guide, plain slabs generally run ~$70-$90/m2, with exposed aggregate finishes (if you want the pad to look as good as it performs) closer to ~$100-$150/m2. Pad jobs tend to be smaller in total area than a driveway, so we measure the actual footprint on site rather than quoting off a flat rate.

FAQ

Common questions.

What size slab do I need for a shed?

It depends on the shed you're installing, most manufacturers specify a minimum slab size and thickness. Send us the shed dimensions and we'll confirm what's needed before we quote.

Do you pour spa pads and smoker pads too?

Yes. Anything from a small equipment pad to a full shed base, we handle site prep, formwork, reinforcement and the pour itself, sized and levelled for whatever's going on top.

How thick does a shed pad need to be?

It depends on the shed size and what's going on it, a garden shed pad is a different job to a base for a larger workshop. We'll check the specs against the slab before pouring so it's rated for the load.

How much does a shed pad cost?

As a Perth market guide, expect somewhere around ~$70-$90/m2 for a plain finish, more if you want exposed aggregate. Pad jobs are usually smaller in area, so we'll measure and quote the actual size rather than estimating off a square metre rate alone.
